Alice Dean Mader, 80, of Lebanon, Indiana passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Franciscan Hospice House in Greenwood. She was born March 19, 1944, in Los Angeles, CA, a daughter of the late Rufus Dean and Peggy Winifred (Brace) Brackney.
Alice attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic School and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Indianapolis.
Alice began her dedication to hard work at the tender age of 10, helping in her parents’ bakery. She also worked as Mail Carrier for USPS. Her career later included impactful roles at the Humana Child Psychiatric Ward and as a House Parent at the Indiana United Methodist Children’s Home.
Alice’s heart for service continued in her volunteer work with Love INC, a Brownsburg Softball Board Member, Saint Mary’s Class Coordinator, and 12 years as a find a grave member helping others find the final resting place of their loved ones. Additionally, she and her family opened their home to foster children for 30 years providing love and stability to hundreds of children in need.
Alice was a faithful member of the St. Malachy Church, Traders Point Christian Church, Brownsburg Christian Church, Elizaville Christian Church, Lebanon Christian Church, and Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi.
Alice found joy in simple pleasures including camping and enjoying nature with her family. She was also an avid swimmer and Water Skier at Indiana Beach ski shows. She continued her love of water through attending swimming classes at the Lebanon YMCA.
Survivors include her children, Gregory Dean (Shannon L.) Mader, Julieann Marie (Joseph L. II) Lyman, Janet Suzanne (Gregory M.) Christy, Todd David (Nicole J.) Mader, April Marie Gillespie, Rebecca Michelle (Casey E.) Judd, and James Douglas (Kim A.) Mader; two half- brothers; 29 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edwin Mader and her son, Douglas Paul Mader.
Family and friends will gather Friday, August 16, for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 17, at 1:30 p.m., with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m.in the Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 5901 W. Olive Branch Road, Greenwood, followed by a meal at the Church from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Alice will be laid to rest after procession begins at 4:00 p.m. to Brownsburg Cemetery.
