Byron was born November 19, 1931 in Tipton County and moved to Boone County at the age of 6. There he resided working the family farm. He attended Dover School through 12th grade and participated in basketball and baseball, graduating in 1949. Byron studied an agriculture program at Purdue University and continued farming and raising pure breed Black Angus cattle his entire life. He married Willett Anne Boze in April 1952; she preceded him in death in 2011.
They raised two girls, Mary Anne (David) Carmony and Cynthia K. (Eric) Goodnight. He loved his grandchildren, Amanda (Scott) Bergfield, Nicholas Byron (Angie) Vores, Michael (Alisa) Vores, Grant (Kerri) Goodnight, Austin Carmony, and Joe Carmony. All his great-grandchildren were his pride and joy; Olivia Williams, Alexandra Bergfield, Leah Bergfield, Alayna Bergfield, Austin Bergfield, Byron Vores, Andrew Vores, Lena Vores, Ace Goodnight, and Annderson Goodnight, whom all survive.
Byron was a public servant to Boone County serving on the Western Boone School Board for 8 years, serving 14 years on the Boone County Council; 4 years as the District 2 Boone County Commissioner of which they dedicated the Witham Memorial Hospital as he served as president in 2002. Serving also on the Boone County Health Board and 16 years on the Witham Hospital Citizen Advisory Committee. Byron dedicated 10 years on the Big Cicero Drainage Board and 18 years on the Boone County Drainage Board. He felt it was very important that people get involved and give something back to the community.
His other memberships included the Lebanon First Presbyterian Church, Farm Bureau and Purdue Ag Alumni.
Byron was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all the family. He was recognized as a leader in Boone County but also had distinguished himself as a true steward to this great agricultural land of Boone County.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm. on Monday, July 11, 2022, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon, Indiana.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home in Lebanon. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, Indiana.
