This from the 4th of July Committee. It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing changes with Boone County 4th of July festivities this year. The following events are being cancelled: the parade, carnival, concerts, faith services and other competitions. The good news – FIREWORKS are expected to continue as scheduled and will be as beautiful and exciting as last year.
In depth discussion that included Mayor Gentry, Lebanon City Council, Lebanon Police Department, Witham Health Services EMT’s, Boone County Health Department, Boone County Board of Health, Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Lebanon Parks Department, Lebanon Parks and Recreation Board, 4th of July Executive Committee, as well as other local officials over the last few months, provided input for this decision. We understand that Lebanon holds a proud tradition of celebrating Independence Day to the fullest and the decision to cancel many festivities this year was not a decision made lightly. Given the highly infections nature of the COVID-19 virus and the ability of our celebrations to draw large numbers of the public to our City, we believe it is not in the best interest for the health of the community to move forward with certain events.
4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS WILL BEGIN AT THE TRADITIONAL TIME OF 10:00PM ON JULY 4TH, WITH LAUNCHING AT THE LEBANON MIDDLE SCHOOL. WE WILL ADVISE LOCATION RESTRICTIONS AS WE MOVE CLOSER TO THE 4TH AND HAVE A BETTER HEALTH STATUS UPDATE AT THAT TIME.
Please continue to show your love for our country and community by playing your part in protecting yourself and your loved ones from the COVID-19 virus. Times are difficult and we will need to continue to adapt to a “new normal” for the foreseeable future. We have the resilience to overcome any obstacle in our way – including a pandemic. Please continue to be mindful of maintaining social distancing while out in public, avoiding large public gatherings to the best extent possible, covering coughs and sneezes, and wearing masks or face coverings while out in public. These are the best tools we have in turning the tide against COVID-19.
ENJOY A SAFE AND HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!
