Frankfort Police Officer Captain Hall Receives “Excellence In Action” Commander’s Coin

Frankfort Police Captain Evan Hall received the “Excellence in Action” Commander’s Coin from the American Legion Post 12 on Thursday, August 15, 2024.

Those that are eligible for the honorary medal is American Legion Members, Sons of the American Legion Members, Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, and all Veterans. The Commander’s Coin can also be given to any citizen that exemplifies the value principle of the American Legion by actions that serve the members of the Walter T. Cohee Post 12 Frankfort, IN or the community in which they live.

On Sunday, June 7, 2024, the Frankfort Police Department was reportedly contacted regarding a missing 76-year old US military veteran. Officers reportedly began their investigation locally in Frankfort, but information received from the community indicated that he was not in Frankfort, prompting Officer Myers to contact the VA where he learned the Veteran would not do well without medication that was left at his residence.

Captain Hall elected to assist with the investigation while off duty. He confirmed that the missing Veteran was not in the Frankfort area utilizing the Flock Safety Cameras. Investigators and administrative staff were contacted while efforts were being made to initiate a new “Green Alert” for the at-risk Veteran. Captain Hall contacted Clinton County Central Dispatch to issue an alert to the cell provider who utilized their technology to pink the man’s last known location.

Initially, the ping came back and was not usable for a specific location and Captain Hall requested Central Dispatch to call the cell carrier again to provide a GPS signal in Putnam County. Upon realizing the man’s last known location was in Putnam County, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office was contacted, leading to the location of the missing truck, but not the Veteran.

While on the phone, deputies reportedly radioed that the man was located and needed immediate medical aid. Following the location of the missing Veteran, Frankfort Police Chief Shoemaker received an email of gratitude toward Captain Hall and the entire department for their efforts in locating the Veteran.

Post 12 American Legion Officer Joe Root stated, “We couldn’t be more honored to give Captain Hall this coin. The situation could have had a different outcome if it wasn’t for the help of Captain Hall and those that assisted him in finding our missing Veteran. Thank you for all that you do for our community.”
