Harold Thomas West, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, Indiana.
He was born in Lebanon, Indiana on June 7, 1933, to Thomas and Julia West of Sheridan, Indiana. Harold was a 1951 graduate of Kirklin High School. Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 – 1954 during the Korean War. After his discharge he worked various jobs including Pitman Moore in Zionsville and for Culligan as a delivery driver. His focus then turned to law enforcement. He served as an Officer and Town Marshall in Sheridan, Indiana for seven years. He then went to the Lebanon City Police Department in 1966. He retired from the Department after 20 years of service. During retirement he worked as a security officer for St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. In addition, he worked as a security officer for the 1987 Pan American Games that were held in Indianapolis.
Harold moved from Lebanon to a small farm in Whitestown where he had horses and raised goats. He enjoyed riding his horses and often rode on trails with friends and neighbors. He enjoyed hosting annual hayrides and cookouts for his friends and their families.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Louise, and an infant daughter Beth Ann. Survivors include his son, Tom (Sue Ann) West of Michigan; sister, Arilla Holt of Florida; and brother, Phil West of Lebanon.
Visitation is planned from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
