Julia A. “Judy” Walker, 92, passed away Friday, November 17, 2023, at Autumn Trace in Lebanon, Indiana. She was born on October 3, 1931, in Lebanon, Indiana, a daughter of the late Orval Allen and Geneva Noreen (Hiland) Ragsdale.
On November 19, 1949, she was united in marriage to Danny Dane Walker on the Ragsdale family farm. They had shared 70 loving years together before he passed away on August 3, 2020.
Judy attended Pinnell High School and was a 1949 graduate of Jackson Township. She worked side by side with her husband in his Livestock Business and at the Boone County Livestock Center with him. She also worked as a clerk for Stilesville Implement Auction for over 25 years. Judy held memberships with the Central Christian Church, Ladies Auxiliary of Elks Lodge #635, the American Legion #610 Auxiliary, and the Kappa Delta Phi Sorority.
She and Dane became involved with the Boone County Cancer Society when their daughter, Diann, was diagnosed with breast cancer and received several awards over the years for their philanthropic efforts. Among them are the Indiana Pacers Indiana Heroes award, Aaron Stookey Spirit of Philanthropy, Sagamore of the Wabash, and July 4th Parade Marshalls. They held their Annual Cancer Benefit for 17 years with all proceeds going to the Boone County Cancer Society. At their last benefit in November 2019, they included the celebration of their 70th wedding anniversary asking that in lieu of gifts donations be made to BCCS. At this benefit they exceeded their goal of raising $300,000 in the 17 years they had done the benefits.
Throughout her years, Judy enjoyed bowling and was a part of the 200 Club. She was a talented seamstress and had fun making clothes for Cabbage Patch dolls for her granddaughter, Alana. Above all, Judy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. In addition, she loved giving back to her community.
Survivors include her daughters, Dana A. Brown of Brownsburg and Deanna K. Walker of Lebanon; son-in-law, Richard L. Lowe of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Alana C. (Adam) Hart of Lebanon, Darren R. (Meg) Lowe of Winter Park, Colorado, Juliann K. Lowe of Whitestown and Bret M. McGinley of Lebanon; three great grandchildren, Nathan Allen, Brandon Allen and Tyler Lowe; brother, William Robert Ragsdale of Bicknell; sisters, Eileen Whitaker of Utah, Sharon Blackwell of California and Janet (Harold) Hussong of Avon; brother-in-law, James McIntire of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Judy was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Diann Lowe; son-in-law, Rick Brown; brother, Allen L. Ragsdale; and a sister, Maxine McIntire.
Funeral Services are planned for 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 24, 2023, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.
Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
