Larry Lee Hackett, 80, of Lebanon, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon.
Larry was born August 12, 1941, in Lebanon and was a lifelong resident of Boone County. He was the only child of the late Leland Otis and Gwendolyne May (Norton) Hackett. He married Violet Jean “Sue” Cordray on January 9, 1962.
Larry was a lifetime farmer in the Whitestown area. He also worked at Rock Island Refinery, retiring after 27 years. After retirement from Rock Island, Larry operated “Papaw’s Produce” where he enjoyed socializing with his friends and customers. For many years, he and his wife, Sue, enjoyed wintering in Sarasota, FL, where Larry also loved to fish
Earlier in life, Larry was always involved in his children’s lives, coaching baseball, being a 4-H leader, and many other activities. Larry never met a stranger.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Sue Hackett of Lebanon; children, Sheila Hackett of Whitestown, Sherri (Marty) Baber of Jonesboro, AR, David (fiancé, Laura Cohen) Hackett of Jamestown, and Darryl Hackett of Lebanon; grandchildren, Brittani, Glenn, and Courtney Baber, Stephanie, Andrew, and Curtis Hackett, and Kylie and Christian Hackett; and six great grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather Friday, Sep. 10, for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Larry will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
