Thomas Cornelius

LHS Teacher Thomas Cornelius was approved as new Head coach for the Boys Golf Team. Coach Thomas Cornelius has played golf since he was eight years old.  His grandfather worked at a golf course and mowed the greens until he was 92.  He would pick him up in the morning, set him free and he played until the swimming pool opened.  He played varsity golf for four years at Waverly High School, was the number one player and team captain for three years.  He played college golf at Adrian College.  He was a MIAA Scholar Athlete.  Thomas coached boy’s golf team in Arizona for eight years at Safford High School, and had some very talented players, three of whom went on to play college golf at Eastern Arizona College and Grand Canyon University.  He has run numerous junior clinics.  Thomas has personally played a lot of golf and has tried to qualify for the US open five times, making it out of the first round only once.  In addition, he has coached a freshman girls basketball team at Whiteland High School and was the Assistant Coach for new LHS Girls Golf Coach Lucy Stevens this past Fall season.  Thomas currently teaches English at LHS.
