After missing the State Finals by one place as a sophomore, Tuesday night’s Lafayette Jefferson Regional was one that Western Boone junior Grace Huckstep had circled on her calendar. All the hard work and motivation from last year’s best miss paid off, as Huckstep finished third in the pole vault with a state standard of 11-feet-6-inches and qualified for State Meet on June 1. Also competing for Western Boone on Tuesday was freshman Audrey Knoper, who placed 10th in the 3,200meter run in a time of 11:51.07.
Lebanon brought a large contingent to the regional, and had solid showings throughout. The 400-meter relay team of Sara Nino, Hallie Montgomery, Summer Stogsdill and Kara Funk placed fifth in 49.44. Stogsdill was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.46.
Both have a chance at a state callback.
Ashlyn Terrill was seventh in the shot put in 36-feet-10.50-inches and eighth in the discus in 116-feet-08-inches.
Christina Lamb was seventh in the high jump in 5-feet. Murphy Adams was 10th in the 1,600-meter run in 5:22.24 and Hallie Montgomery was 10th in the 200 in 27.06.
Kara Funk was 13th in the 100 in 13.26 seconds.
Zionsville will be sending multiple events to state. Ella Robinson was a regional champion in the 300meter hurdles in a regional record 42.62.
Katelyn Wasson was second in the 3,200-meter run in a state standard 10:49.16 and the 400-meter relay team of Cam Gietl, Lily Robinson, Michelle Nazarov and Sophia Yovanovich hit the state standard in 48.71. Gietl was third in the 100meter hurdles in 15.51 to advance.
