Mary Jane (Lewis) Jones, 89, of Lebanon, passed away on Dec. 24, 2019, at Brownsburg Meadows.
Mary was born May 18, 1930, to Leander and Nellie (Johnson) Lewis in London, KY. One of twelve children, she was raised in London until moving with her family to Pike Township in Indianapolis where she attended Pike High School. She met and later married, Aubrey E. Jones on Dec. 1, 1951. They moved to Lebanon in 1959, where they worked and raised their 5 children. In 1971, they moved to Fayette. Mary worked at RCA in Indianapolis and retired after 42 years of service. She got bored and went back to work at JC Penney at Lafayette Square Mall in the drapery department for 7 years. In her retirement years, Mary and Aubrey traveled and spent weekends at Racoon Lake. They also welcomed grandchildren into their lives, were active members of the Moose Lodge and eventually moved back into town (Lebanon) in 2005, where she cared for Aubrey until his death in 2008.
Mary had a sincere love for family. She was witty and always smiling. She enjoyed music, cooking, shopping, and playing Euchre and Bingo. She was a kind, generous person who loved helping and chatting with friends and family. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Dolores J. (Clark) Gibson; daughter-in-law, Beth Jones; brothers, Edgar, Hiram, Nay, Hassel, Edsel, George, Henry, and Elzie Lewis; and sisters, Myrtle Lewis and Florence Graham.
Mary is survived by her children, Denise Jones, Bob Jones, Donna Wright, and Bill (Cindy) Jones; grandchildren, Shane Quick, Shanna Revell, Mandy (Travis) Tison, Ashley Jones, Megan Jones, Corey Jones, and Jeremy Jones; great- grandchildren, Taylor and Logan Wagoner, and Oliver and Theo Tison; and sister, Susie Hedges. She also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, three sister-in-laws, and family friends.
Family and friends will gather Sun., Dec. 29, 2019, for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Mary will be laid to rest Mon., Dec. 30, 2019, next to Aubrey at Lincoln Memorial Gardens near Anson.
