(Owings Mills, MD)  —  Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti [[ bih-SHOT-ee ]] appears to be the only thing stopping the team from signing free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick [[ KAP-er-nick ]].  ESPN reports head coach John Harbaugh and general manager Ozzie Newsome are in support of signing Kaepernick, but have met some resistance from Bisciotti.

(Canton, OH)  —  The NFL preseason begins tonight.  The exhibition season kicks off with the Cardinals facing the Cowboys in the annual Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.   It’s the first time the game has been held on a Thursday ahead of the inductions.  The Class of 2017 will be enshrined on Saturday.

(Atlanta, GA)  —  The Dodgers’ latest winning streak is over.  LA’s nine-game run came to an end with a 5-3 loss to the Braves in Atlanta.  Tyler Flowers launched a go-ahead, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Braves.  The Dodgers are still an MLB-best 75-and-32.

>>Indians Place Miller On DL

(Boston, MA)  —  One of the best relievers in baseball is on the shelf.  Indians pitcher Andrew Miller has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with tendinitis in his right knee.  The Tribe has also lost starter Josh Tomlin for six weeks with a strained hamstring tendon.  The defending AL champs have a two-and-a-half-game lead on the Royals atop the AL Central.

(South Bend, IN)  —  Famed Notre Dame head football coach Ara Parseghian is dead at the age of 94.  Parseghian led the Fighting Irish to national championships in 1966 and 1973.  He retired from coaching after the 1974 season and entered broadcasting as a color commentator.
