(New York, NY)  —  Colin Kaepernick [[ CAP-er-nick ]] has another accolade.  Beyonce made a surprise visit to the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Awards to give the former San Francisco 49er the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award.  “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah introduced Beyonce and said Kaepernick’s decision to protest police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem sparked a national conversation about race.

>>Taggart Leaving Oregon For Florida State

(Tallahassee, FL)  —  Willie Taggart is leaving Oregon after just one season to take over at Florida State.  Taggart has agreed to become the next head football coach at FSU.  Taggart guided the Ducks to a 7-and-5 record in his only season in Eugene.  The 41-year-old replaces Jimbo Fisher, who left to take the head coaching job at Texas A&M.

>>Warriors’ Curry Out At Least Two Weeks With Ankle Sprain

(Charlotte, NC)  —  Warriors star Steph Curry is out at least two weeks with a sprained right ankle.  The team announced an MRI found no structural damage and he will be re-evaluated in about two weeks.  Curry was hurt in Monday’s win at New Orleans.  The 29-year-old is averaging 26.3 points, 6.6 assists and 5.1 rebounds this season.  The Warriors visit Curry’s hometown Hornets tonight.

>>Beal Carries Wizards Past Blazers

(Portland, OR)  —  Bradley Beal dropped in a career-high 51 points to push the Wizards to a 106-92 win over the Trail Blazers in Portland.  Beal connected on 21-of-37 shots, including five threes.  He was the only starter in double-figures.  Washington is 13-and-11 and trying to hold the fort down without John Wall.  The Wizards are 3-and-3 in the last six games he’s missed.

>>Russia Banned From Winter Olympics; Clean Athletes Can Compete

(Lausanne, Switzerland)  —  The International Olympic Committee is banning the Russian Olympic Team from participating in the 2018 Winter Games.  The decision is in response to what the IOC calls the “systemic manipulation of the anti-doping system in Russia.”  Clean Russian athletes with no record of doping violations will be invited to participate, in individual or team competitions, under the name “Olympic Athlete from Russia.”
