Western Boone teachers will get a few extra perks with the new contract approved between the Western Boone Community School District Board of Trustees and the Western Boone Teacher Association earlier this week. Superintendent Rob Ramey said a couple of the perks are hoped to attract and retain young teachers to the district. The offer includes a $100 stipend for daycare and the opportunity for teachers to send their children to pre-kindergarten at Western Boone for free, which would normally cost $200 per month. Ramey said the daycare and pre-k offer were brought to the table by the board to provide an incentive for teachers to stay, following a year with higher than usual turn-over among young teachers.
