Nancy Jane Saulmon, 81, of Lebanon, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on June 1, 2019.

Nancy was born January 28, 1938, a daughter of the late Paul and Jessie (Robinson) Ashba. She married the love of her life, Johnny Conley Saulmon Jr., on June 14, 1959. She graduated from Delphi High School in 1956, and then went on to attend Indiana Business College. She worked and was a co-owner of J & N Auto Parts in Thorntown for 19 years; she retired to spend time with her family and to help raise her grandchildren.

Nancy dabbled in knitting until she dropped an important stitch on a project for her mother, and thus she converted to crocheting. She enjoyed crocheting, especially gifts for those she loved. She was an avid reader who loved science fiction and Stephen King as well as anything her grandchildren recommended to her, which ranged from the Twilight series to Harry Potter to the Hunger Games. She never had a shortage of hugs to give, and she gave the type of hugs that communicated so clearly how much you were loved. She was a dedicated, enthusiastic water aerobics instructor at the Witham Family YMCA. She adored her class and leading them in exercises brought her so much joy.

Her faith in Jesus was unshakeable. She was a prayer warrior, and she had a connection with God that illuminated every decision, word, and action of her life. She was a devoted, loving wife who supported and cared for her husband in the ways she knew best, by always having a steaming cup of coffee for him and preparing meals that warmed the soul. She was a steady rock to her family, unwavering and steadfast, a foundation on which they could rely. Her children and grandchildren do not recall a single race, event, or band or choir performance that Nancy missed. She was always prepared and was eager to listen to their struggles and to offer the love and empathy she knew they needed. She supported her children and grandchildren with a fierce fervor that is truly admirable. Her love and strength resides within her family forever.

Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Johnny Saulmon; children: John (Karen) Saulmon III and Jamie (Jim) Saulmon-Reff; and grandchildren: Ashleigh (Brandon) Fisher, Bayleigh Saulmon, Hayleigh Saulmon, and JR Brandhoefer, all of Lebanon. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant children Melanie Anne Saulmon, Theresa Anne Saulmon and Lisa Anne Saulmon (twins), and a brother William Henry Ashba.

Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 for visitation from 4-8 p.m. at the Strawmyer and Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St. Lebanon, IN 46052.
