U.S. Women’s Basketball Dominates Nigeria To Advance

(Paris) — The U.S. women’s basketball team blew out Nigeria 88-74 to advance to the semifinals at the Paris Olympics. A’Ja Wilson led all scorers with 20 points and added 11 rebounds for a double-double. Jackie Young added 15 points and Breanna Stewart sunk 13 on five-of-seven shooting. The ladies won their 59th straight Olympic game and will square off against Australia in the semifinals on tomorrow. Meanwhile, LeBron James and the men’s team battles Serbia today in the semifinals.

(Paris, France) — The United States continued to collect hardware in athletics at the Paris Olympics yesterday. For the men, Kenneth Rooks won silver in the men’s 3000 meter steeplechase and Quincy Hall won his first career Olympic medal after taking gold in the men’s 400 meter final. For the women, Katie Moon captured silver in the women’s pole vault. Several more finals are on tap today in track and field including the men’s 200-meter, men’s 110-meter hurdles, and women’s 400-meter hurdles.

(Paris) — The U.S. came up short in the quarterfinal round of the men’s beach volleyball tournament. The Stars and Stripes fell to Qatar in two sets from the Paris Olympics. Miles Partain and Andy Benesh dropped the first set 21-14 and followed up with a 21-16 loss in set two. It’s the first time that no U.S. men’s or women’s beach volleyball team will medal at the Olympics.

(Paris) — Team USA’s Sarah Hildebrandt is celebrating a gold medal finish at the Paris Olympics. She defeated Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 3-0 to win the women’s 50-kilogram wrestling final. The 30-year-old was originally supposed to square off against Vinesh Phogat, but the India representative failed to make weight. It’s Hildebrandt’s second career Olympic medal after earning bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

(Paris, France) — American Lilia Vu is tied for third after the opening round of the women’s individual golf tournament at the Paris Olympics. Vu shot a two under 70 in round one. She trails France’s Celine Boutier by three strokes for the lead. Americans Nelly Korda and Rose Zhang are tied for 13th after finishing the first round even.
