Rex Steven Jones, 96, passed away on Thursday morning, August 24, 2022 at his home in Lebanon, Indiana. He was born on March 4, 1926; a son of the late Ezra Roscoe Jones and Elma Al. (Soards) Jones.

He attended Dover High School and served in the United States Army during WWII and later joined the Army Air Corp. On January 13, 1947 he was married to Hazel (Hale) Jones in San Antonio, Texas; she survives.

Rex retired after many years with Local #108 in California, which later merged with Local #20 in Indianapolis as a sheet metal worker. He and Hazel attended Access Church in Lebanon. Rex had a lead foot and a passion for race cars, where he owned and raced midget and sprint cars. He also loved following his son, Douglas’s, baseball career and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Jones of Lebanon; two sons, Steven (Patricia) Jones of Whitestown, Jack (Rebecca) Jones of Oro Valley, Arizona; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; daughter-In-law, Debra Jones of Tucson, Arizona; sister, Barbara Hale of Oceanside, California; brother-in-law, Larry Peetz of Lebanon; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jones and Opal Jones

In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Jones; siblings, Garnet Jones, Earl Jones, Linzie Jones, Harlin Jones, Catherine Lucas, Reva Campbell, and Marcella Peetz,

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2022 at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon, Indiana.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. noon until the time of service at the funeral home.
Interment will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, Indiana.
