Mr. Robert Owen Bennington, 82, was welcomed to heaven on Dec. 9, 2020 at Homewood Health Campus.

Bob was born Feb. 27, 1938 in Boone County, number eight of 12 children born to the late William and Jane Ann (Richey) Bennington.  Bob was a lifelong resident of Boone County. He married his high school sweetheart Alberta “Bertie” Frazier on June 8, 1958.

Bob was a 1956 graduate of Zionsville High School. He was well known for his service with the US Postal Service, retiring in 1993 after 31.5 years. After retiring, Bob enjoyed working at the fertilizer plant in Milledgeville which contributed to his and Bertie’s traveling and gambling entertainment. Bob and Bertie loved traveling, camping and spending time with family. He was also an avid, self-taught woodworker creating many beautiful projects and restoring furniture and caning chairs. He had a “Jack of all trades” attitude.

Bob was a former member of the Moose Lodge, Lebanon Eagles, Boone Co. Antique Tractor Club, National Campers & Hikers Assoc. (NCHA) and enjoyed being a blood donor throughout his life.

Survivors include his children: Barbara (Bob) Mason of Lebanon, Diana Shockley of Avon, Donna (Tracy) Baker of Lebanon and Doug (Michelle) Bennington of Brownsburg; grandchildren: Dustin (Heather) Mason, Wyatt Mason, Travis Lowery, Mitchell Baker, Kaitlyn Bennington, Ashley Bennington and Kyle Bennington and one great-grandson Connor Mason; and siblings Patty Guard of Carson City, NV, Charles (Linda) Bennington of Sebring, FL, Raymond Bennington of Whitestown, IN, and Dorla (John D.) King.   In addition to his parents and his wife, Bob was preceded in death by siblings, Betty Giles, Virginia Hyslop, Mary Louise Bennington, Relda Conway, Sharlene Grizzle, Linda Dawson and Eileen Bennington; and grandson Quinten Shockley.

Family and friends will gather Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020 for visitation from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. and a service will be held on Monday, Dec. 14, at 1 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Bob will be laid to rest at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown.
