Mr. Rodger D. Martin, 72, of Thorntown, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born February 19, 1952, in Lebanon, a son of the late Lora and Marjorie (Davidson) Martin. Rodger married Beverly Smith on August 31, 1970, and she survives.

Rodger worked at Kroger as a meat cutter, retiring after 40 years. He also processed deer for several years and made plenty of friends during that time. If anyone ever needed his help, he was always there to help if he could. Rodger took pride in everything he did. He enjoyed gardening and doing yardwork, along with his Martin birds that returned every year. As he aged, he became a softie with his pets.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Beverly Martin of Thorntown; sons, Chris (Kristen) Martin of Thorntown and Josh Martin of Danville; brothers, Steve Martin of Lebanon, Dave Martin of Colfax, and Larry (Diana) Martin of Thorntown; sisters, Kathy (Jerry) Perdue of Thorntown, Kim (Mark) Davis of Thorntown, and Karen Martin of Lebanon; and bonus children, Ari, Vivi, and Nico.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, July 20, for a graveside service at 12 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Darlington. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Darlington Conservation Club from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Final care of Rodger has been entrusted to the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, Lebanon.
