The Indiana Department of Environmental Management would like to close the “incident” file on the former Sunoco gas station at 2065 Indianapolis Avenue in front of the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds.
The station closed in the mid-1980s and it was determined that the underground gas storage tanks were leaking. The tanks were removed and remediation of the spill began. More than 30 years later, the soil is still contaminated. Phil Schlak with the ATC, an environmental consulting firm, went before the Boone County Commissioners to see if a closure could be arranged. More details in the Lebanon Reporter.
