Vernon Richardson, Jr., 80, of Jamestown passed away on Sunday, August 7. He was born on August 23, 1941 in Boone County, Indiana. He was the son of Vernon and June (Gibbs) Richardson.
Vernon graduated from Kirklin High School in 1959. He married Nancy (Blubaugh) Richardson on March 20, 1960 and they were married for 62 years.
Vernon enjoyed life and was always a jokester. He enjoyed his farm and raising livestock. Vernon retired from Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company after more than 40 years.
Vernon enjoyed retirement and loved his grandkids. He never missed their school or sporting events. He was passionate about the appearance of his farm and was constantly maintaining and improving the property. He was also an avid reader and could finish a book in one sitting.
He was a motivator to his four sons and grandkids and taught them many life lessons. Vernon never met a stranger and would always know their life story after a minimum of 20 questions.
Vernon is survived by his wife Nancy of 62 years, and four sons, Doug (Beth) Richardson, Jeff (Barb) Richardson, Mark (Joyce) Richardson and Paul (Miranda) Richardson, all of Lebanon. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Vernon is also survived by four siblings, Steve (Charlotte) Richardson of Lebanon, Janet Shoemaker (Vicksburg, Mich.), Joyce Smith (Lisbon, Maine) and Bonnie (John) Smith of Lebanon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 from 4:00-8:00pm at Dover Christian Church, 955 State Road 75, Lebanon.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 13 at 11:00am with an additional visitation one hour prior to the funeral at Dover Christian Church, followed by interment at Dover Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hanging Rock Christian Camp and Boone County Cancer Society. Final care of Vernon has been entrusted to the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary.
