Mailing address confusion has led to some Whitestown restaurants improperly collecting a food and beverage tax, while some Zionsville restaurant’s are not assessing their customers.
No one yet knows how much money is involved.
Whitestown Town Manager Dax Norton said the town has uncovered evidence of at least five Whitestown restaurants that have been charging customers the 1 percent tax, even though the town doesn’t have that authority. He said it is not clear exactly why the restaurants have been charging the tax, but a likely reason is their Zionsville mailing address. More details in the Lebanon Reporter.
