They are the best of the best in their professions, and on Saturday, December 18th American Legion Post 410 will present Police Officer of the Year and Firefighter of the Year awards to the top two first responders in Whitestown.

Det. Joe Turney is the lead investigator on all cases involving children and has received awards from both the Child Advocacy Center and the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office for his work protecting children and hunting down child predators in Boone County. Firefighter and paramedic Chris Collins leads potentially life-saving CPR certification courses and helps teach the next generation about fire safety through his working visiting area schools and daycares. Both men will receive a plaque, a certificate, and a $500 check as a thank you from the American Legion for their service.

The public is invited to attend Saturday’s program at the Whitestown American Legion 5 Linville Avenue, Whitestown. The program will begin at 3:45 p.m.
