The massive rebuild and closure of Ind. 75 through Advance has caused the fire department to cancel the Labor Day Festival for the second year in a row. “There won’t be any Labor Day this year because the streets are totally destroyed,” Advance Fire Chief Jim Caldwell said. “They’re digging up the road bed, putting plastic down and packing it down and building a whole new road. When it’s done, it will be a great road, but now it’s terrible.” The road, for instance, has a 3-foot deep, 30-foot wide and 100-foot long hole on the north end of town.
