Mrs. Alyce Jean Miller, 86, of Thorntown, passed away May 20, 2020, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon.

Alyce was born Apr. 8, 1934, in the farm house of the late George and Gladys Thrasher of rural Thorntown. She had three sisters, Karlyn Demaree Cowan (now deceased), Nancy Lewis of Ft. Myers, FL, and Joyce (Bob) Coomes of Owensboro, KY.

Alyce attended Dover High School for 11 and one-half years and attended school in Ft. Myers, FL for a semester. She married R. Karl Miller on May 3, 1953. He passed away on Nov. 27, 2018. They had three children, Kevyn Ray (now deceased) and daughter-in-law René Miller, Kyle Jay (Kim) Miller, and Kristyn R. (Steve) Pittman; along with seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Following their marriage, Alyce and Karl started farming and milking cows. They purchased land between both family farms and continued farming until the boys and grandsons took over.

The whole family was always active in 4-H, with each being 10-year members. Alyce was active in Home Ec. and was the county President in 1959. She was a member of the Dover Dubble Duzzers Home Ec. Club for over 60 years, a member of the Lebanon women’s business group for several years, an insurance sales woman for Prudential for 13 years, and an agent for Boone Mutual Agency for 14 years. Alyce also owned Miller’s Catering for over 25 years and was a member of the quilt guild for over 30 years and the DAR in Boone County. Alyce was also a member of the Pleasant View Church for over 50 years.

Alyce was an artist at the Sugar Creek Art Center in Thorntown. She and her husband were active in the Bluebird Society in Boone County for many years.

Family and friends will gather for visitation Sat., May 23, 2020, from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Tom Evans officiating in the Pleasant View Church, 5295 W. SR 32, Lebanon, IN 46052. Final care of Alyce has been entrusted to the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, Lebanon.
