Bennie Smith, 76, entered heaven on Monday, January 4, 2021 at home in Lebanon, Indiana with family by his side. He was born on December 16, 1944 in Columbia, Kentucky; a son of the late Ferris Thurman “Firm” and Altia E. (Curtsinger) Smith.

Bennie was married to Bessie L. (Norris) Smith on August 19th, 1960 in Rushville, Illinois; she survives. They had recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. They moved to the Lebanon area and called it their home since 1972.

Bennie was gifted in auto body restoration. Numerous classic cars and multiple race cars which he restored are housed in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. He has always attributed his talent as a “God given gift”. He was also an accomplished mechanic. He spent twenty-two years employed by Carmel Concrete, Inc.

Bennie and Bessie have attended and been members of Lebanon Rock Church for forty years. Due to COVID-19 precautions and health issues, Pastor Jim Kyle of Fairview Congregational Christian Church has recently ministered to the family in their home. Bennie deeply loved his family and friends and carried a strong Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife: Bessie Smith of Lebanon; three daughters: Pamela Smith of Lebanon, Michelle Smith of Lebanon and Lisa Adams of Walkerton, Indiana; four grandsons, along with great grandchildren.

Private Family Services will be held Friday, January 8, 2021 at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street in Lebanon, Indiana. Those attending are asked to follow the CDC guidelines, please wear a mask and practice social distancing. Due to the current pandemic, the services may be viewed by family and friends on the Myers Mortuary Facebook page beginning at 2 PM on January 8th.
