Betty Jane Shields Maze, 98, passed away at her home in Thorntown, Indiana, on Sunday, February 27, 2022. She was born April 16, 1923, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, a daughter of the late Roy David Shields and Hallie (Keller) Shields.

Betty graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1941 and had attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute.

On June 5, 1942, she was married to Robert Turner Maze in Crawfordsville. He passed away on July 31, 2001. They were the parents of two children, James Robert Maze of rural Lebanon and Jane Maze Burgman of Boise, Idaho. She had five grandchildren, Michael J. Maze, Jodi Maze Barnett, Manda Maze Lumpkin, Robert C. Huckstep, and Douglas L. Huckstep. Betty is also survived by ten great grandchildren, Jaden and Branson Maze, Wyatt, Ethan and Colton Barnett, Abby and Katie Lumpkin, Kyle and Joshua Huckstep, and Owen Huckstep.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy A. Shields.

Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lebanon. Other memberships included, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter A of Thorntown, alumni member of the Omega Chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority of Lebanon, Red Hats Society, Witham Hospital Volunteer, Witham Health Services Foundation, Sugar Creek Art Center, the Friends of the Thorntown Public Library, and several Bridge clubs.

Mrs. Maze was a 21-year employee of the Thorntown Telephone Company, retiring in 1988 as office manager.

Betty enjoyed playing Bridge with her many friends, volunteering at Witham Memorial Hospital and the Thorntown Public Library, knitting, quilting, and traveling. In her travels, she and Bob managed to visit all 50 states. However, most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Family and friends will gather from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2022, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 5. 2022, at the funeral home in Lebanon.
Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in her memory to the Thorntown Public Library, 124 North Market Street, Thorntown, Indiana 46071.
