Mr. Charles Marion Copeland, 99, passed away Friday night, January 20, 2023, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, Indiana. He was born on April 14, 1923, in Lebanon, a son of the late Marion Delaski “Dee” and Carrie Myrtle (Caldwell) Copeland.
On July 6, 1946, he married the love of his life, Bonitta Jean (Linton) Copeland, in Indianapolis. They had spent nearly 71 loving years together, before her passing on June 17, 2017.
As a young man, Charles proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Army while stationed in England. He was a lifelong resident of Lebanon and worked for Boone County REMC as a lineman from 1946–1984.
He loved attending Lebanon Christian Church where he was a member. He served as Post Commander from 1971-1972 at the VFW Post 910. Charles loved spending time with family and friends, sitting on the porch visiting. His hobbies included fishing and bowling. As an avid bowler, Charles participated in a league until the age of 95.
Survivors include his daughters, Marcia D. McCain of Frankfort, Karen L. Cline of Lebanon, and Susie J. (Brian) Rutherford of Lebanon; grandchildren, Andrea Kinsler, Dennis (Kathy) Campbell, Chad (Amy) Peterman, Michelle (Brandon) Morrow, Christy (Jason) Labrie, Casey Spencer, and Courtney (Jeff) Spidel; forty great and great great grandchildren; one great great great grandchild; stepsister, Linda Woodard of Thorntown; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, John Copeland and Jack Copeland; sister, Mary Lou Redman; a son-in-law, Terry Cline; and a grandson, Steve Kinsler.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon, Indiana. Funeral Services with Military Rites are planned for 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at the funeral home. Interment will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
