The Lebanon City Council on Monday approved the closure of Witt Road through the Eli Lilly and Co. property. The state agreed to build a bypass around the Lilly property. ” A bypass to the east will be more expedient and cost less to build,” that according to Scott Alexander, attorney for the Indiana Department of Economic Developement. Local community members had pushed for a bypass to the west. the eastern bypass, while faster to build, will force some users to cross the CSX railroad tracks twice, once at County Road 375 and once at County Road 450. Local residents said they preferred the safety of a western rout. But the Council rejected that idea.
