Clarel “C.C.” Clyde Steelsmith, 80, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Signature Healthcare at Parkwood in Lebanon, Indiana. He was born in Frankfort, Indiana on August 20, 1942, a son of the late Clyde and Florence Pearl (Byroad) Steelsmith.
After graduating from New Palestine High School in 1964, Clarel served two years in the United States Army. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2062 and Moose Lodge in Lebanon. Clarel enjoyed playing billiards.
C.C. made Lebanon his home for nearly fifty years. He owned and operated Absolute Cleaning, Inc. where he provided cleaning services for the airlines. For a period of time, he also had worked at Rochester Germicide and Modern Cleaners. During the most recent years, C.C. could be found extending a friendly greeting as you walked into the local Walmart.
Survivors include a nephew: Steven (Karen) Steelsmith of Lebanon; nieces: Theresa Antone of Havlock, NC, Tamara Nelson of Maryland, and Kathryn “Kathy” Hendry of Advance; and several great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, C.C. was preceded in death by the love of his life and longtime companion, Scenia Huff; brothers, Winfred “Vonnie” Steelsmith, Wayne Steelsmith, and Donald Steelsmith; niece, LaVonna Steelsmith; and nephew, Evon Steelsmith.
Funeral Services with military rites are planned for 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown.
Memorials may be directed in his memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
