The Boone County Traffic Safety Partnership (BCTSP) issued 61 seat belt citations during its recent Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign, which coincided with Memorial Day and lasted for three weeks. According to the department, the high-visibility patrols wereconducted to encourage drivers and passengers to buckle up to prevent injuries and save lives.
3 officers with the BCTSP worked 12 patrols and logged 48 hours of enforcement during the Click-It-or-Ticket Blitz; 77 traffic stops were made. Besides the 61 seat belt citations issued, 1 misdemeanor arrest was made for Driving While [license] Suspended; 99 written warnings were also issued for other traffic offenses. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2020, the national seatbelt use rate was 90.3 percent, down slightly from the previous year at 90.7 percent. Historically, seat belt use in Indiana has been above the national average, last recorded at 94.9 percent in 2019.
