Daniel Melvin Howell was born December 31, 1966 in Stockton, CA to Oscar Melvin and Alice May (Wilson) Howell.
In late 1972, the family relocated to Lebanon, IN. Except for a short time in Oklahoma, Lebanon was Melvin’s hometown. He was very interested in agriculture, which was fully realized upon joining FFA. He won many awards during his FFA tenure including the Outstanding Achievement Award. One of his projects was raising three pigs from birth. Melvin had a blast doing this and would often spend his evenings standing outside the makeshift pigpen observing them. Diagnosed with diabetes at a young age, Melvin was limited in his health but always made the best out of the situation including volunteering at Witham and his church, Lebanon Rock Church. You would find Melvin every November assisting with preparation of the Thanksgiving dinner for the community.
His first marriage was to Pam Wire in 1986 where they had two beautiful daughters, Abby (Lukas) Lietz and Charitie (Jonny) Martino. They later divorced. His 2nd marriage was to Melissa Griffith in 1996. They started their family with Melissa’s daughter, Holly, who was a great playmate to Abby and Charitie. They then had three wonderful children together, Zach Howell, Isaiah Howell and Alicae Howell. They later divorced. Melvin was blessed with five grandchildren, Adelaide and Noelle Martino, Garrett Howell and Ariella and Kenzie Hamrick. Melvin married Nancy Arnott in 2020 and enjoyed 2 ½ wonderful years together. You would see them catching a meal at Flapjacks or playing Euchre with friends. A couple of Melvin’s favorite past-times were collecting John Deere Tractors and watching birds. Nancy stated that he was always sending her pictures of Cardinals. If you happened to see him walking around Lebanon, he was famous for carrying a 44-ounce Styrofoam cup of diet pop.
Melvin was a very caring individual who always had time for those in need. He was preceded in death by his dear mother, Alice Howell, stepmother, Marilyn “Pat” Howell and sister-in-law Sandy (Anderson) Howell. They are certainly rejoicing in Heaven at their reunion.
He is survived by his dad, Oscar Howell, and his siblings, Tim Howell, Cris (Mitch) Jester and Steve (Debbie) Howell.
