Donald Welty Ausherman, 92, passed away, Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. He was born in Middletown, Maryland on March 20, 1930. Don was the 8th of nine children to the late Earl and Goldie (Zimmerman) Ausherman.
He graduated from Frederick City High School in 1947. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1947 and served in Vietnam from 1962-1963. Don retired from the U.S. Air Force as a technical sergeant in 1969. He proudly served 22 years in the Air Defense Command and was fortunate to have traveled all 50 states during service. Don later worked 21 years as an automotive mechanic, 15 years part-time at Wal-Mart and retried again.
On April 12, 1967, he was united in marriage to Leona J. (Bowen) who had three sons Jefferey Allen, Jason Allen and Jordan Allen. Don and Leona had two more sons Jansen and Jarrett Ausherman and after 54 years together, Leona passed away on November 22, 2021.
Don was an avid motorcycle rider. He liked to work on cars and motorcycles, woodworking and taking care of his yard and home. He was a great family-man and his memory will be forever cherished by a loving family and many friends.
Survivors include five sons, Jansen (Sherrie) Ausherman, Jarrett Ausherman, Jeffrey (Christa) Allen, Jason (Rosa) Allen, and Jordan Allen; twelve grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and a brother, Luray Ausherman of Frederick, MD.
In addition to his parents and wife, Don was preceded in death by siblings, Maynard, Junior, Gilmore, Larry, Eleanor, Charlotte, Betty and Hilda.
Funeral Services are planned for 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home in Lebanon. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery west of Lebanon, Indiana.
Memorials may be directed in Don’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
