Doyle Leon Allen, 91, of Thorntown, Indiana passed away on August 17, 2019 at Signature Healthcare of Parkwood in Lebanon. He was born in Thorntown on March 3, 1928. A son of the late Claude and Eva Mae (Fisher) Allen.
Doyle was a 1947 graduate of Thorntown High School. Following high school he attended Indiana Business School in Indianapolis then joined the U.S. Army serving his country honorably during the Korean War.
On August 16, 1950 he married Helen Eileen (Walker) Allen; she survives and they shared 69 loving years together.
Doyle began his grocery career at Kroger in Crawfordsville. He later owned and operated Allen’s Regal Market, with his uncle Skeet. The store later became A & B Market with the addition of his sister, Anna in Thorntown. Doyle worked for fifty years in the grocery business, which he truly enjoyed.
He was a member of Thorntown Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee and deacon and currently was attending Sugar Plain Friends Church in Thorntown.
Doyle was a board member of the Thorntown Telephone Company for several years and a member of Cool Lake Golf Club and Sugar Creek Fishing Club.
He was an avid golfer, enjoyed coaching and umpiring little league and loved to fish. Doyle was devoted to his family and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents and wife, Doyle was preceded in death by two brothers, Carter Allen, Bob Allen; two sisters, Mary Higer and Frances Carol Dunbar.
Visitation is planned for Wednesday, August 21, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary 1502 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 22 at the funeral home in Lebanon.
Interment of Ashes will be at a later date at Maple Lawn Cemetery.
Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory have been entrusted with his care.
