Dr. John Robert Bean, 69, of Lebanon, passed away Feb. 17, 2020, at Homewood Health Campus.

John was born Mar. 3, 1950 in Indianapolis, a son of the late Dr. Joseph and Mary Margaret Bean. He grew up in Logansport and graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1968. John received his BA in Zoology at Indiana Univ. in 1972; an Assoc. Science from IU Medical School in Respiratory Therapy in 1973; a Masters of Science in Education in 1975; and Doctoral Dental Surgery in 1983.

In 1973, John worked at the Indiana University Hospital as a respiratory therapist and blood lab technician; in 1976, he worked as an education teacher for Allied Health, and in 1983 he started his General Dentistry practice in Lebanon, retiring in 2019.

John was currently a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Indianapolis and had been a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lebanon. He was a member and past board member of the Lebanon Kiwanis Club; Commission for Sugar Creek District Boy Scout District and past Board member of the Lebanon Boys and Girls Club; past member of the Indiana Dental Society and past member of the Ben Hur Dental Society where he also served as a treasurer trustee.

John enjoyed collecting and restoring old firearms and travelling with his wife, Sara, to Scotland, Ireland, Canada and around the United States.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Hoesel Bean of Lebanon, IN; children, Megan Bean of Ireland, Brian Bean of England and Richard Bean of Lebanon; and a brother, James D. Bean of Logansport, IN.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020 at 3 p.m. for a funeral service and reception at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3243 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46208.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lebanon Kiwanis Club, Lebanon Boys and Girls Club, Trinity Episcopal Church of Indianapolis, or St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lebanon.
