Edgar V. “Ed” Cooney, 81, formerly of Lebanon, passed away peacefully at home in Hendricks County with family by his side on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. He was born in Indianapolis on June 10, 1938, a son of the late Edgar W. Emily T. (VanAbeele) Cooney.
Ed attended Cathedral and Southport High School before moving to Lebanon in 1954. He was a 1956 graduate of Perry Central High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp from 1956 to 1958.
He was formerly married to Eva (Farris) Edwards and Linda (Lanpher) Cooney; they divorced and both survive.
Ed worked at Rock Island Refinery and farmed until he began his successful career in real estate, owning Ed Cooney & Associates and Re/Max Countryside, retiring in 2000. Ed also owned and operated Secure Storage in Lebanon.
He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and the American Legion of Lebanon. He also held memberships in the National Association of Realtors, Boone County Board of Realtors, and Boone County Bassmasters.
Ed loved his family immensely and cherished all the memorable outings at the pond, sporting events and family gatherings. In addition to being with family, Ed also enjoyed golf, woodworking, fishing, and wintering in Florida. His huge heart and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by sisters, Emily Large and Mary Ferrell; and grandsons, Greg Cook and Troy Fields.
Visitation is planned from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, September 29, 2019, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street in Lebanon.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2019, at the funeral home in Lebanon, with Father Richard Weisenberger, officiating.
Interment with military rites will follow services at Old Union Cemetery rural Jamestown, Indiana.
