Mrs. Ernestine “Ernie” Louise Wood, age 85 of Lebanon, Indiana passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 1, 2023, at Witham Hospital.
Ernie was born on March 15, 1937, in Battle Creek, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Louis and Margret (Mayrose) Crosby. Ernie graduated from Garfield High School in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1955 and attended a two-year program at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana to become a registered X-Ray Technician. After earning her certification, Ernie married Roy Edward Wood of Lafayette, Indiana in 1957 and moved to Lebanon, Indiana.
Ernie and Roy have been long time members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Ernie is survived by her sons: Phillip (Karen), Samuel (Julie), Andrew, and Peter (Rachana) and grandchildren Daniella, Caleb (Hannah), Gabrielle (Noah), Cameron, Priya, Vikram, Carson and Christian. Ernie was preceded in death by Roy, her parents, and sister Rose Margaret Antonini.
Ernie was a dedicated wife and mother and will be remembered by most as the heart and soul of the Wood Family. Their home was a focal point for family and friends who enjoyed spending time together. Her passion for life, outgoing personality, and generosity made her a central figure in the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
Ernie and her family have been long time members of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was actively involved in many areas of the church, including the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Family and friends will gather Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary in Lebanon for the Rosary at 3:30 PM and visitation from 4 PM to 7 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lebanon on Friday, January 6, 2023, starting at 11 AM, after which, Ernie will be laid to rest next to her husband, Roy, at St. Joseph Cemetery (Oak Hill Cemetery) in Lebanon.
