Mr. Hershel Von Fisher, 85, of Whitestown, passed away Oct. 26, 2020. Hershel was born Oct. 30, 1934 in Boone County, IN, a son of the late Voyle and Viola (Taylor) Fisher. He married Elisabeth Schonberger on Aug. 19, 1957 in Germany. She survives.

Hershel attended Whitestown High School. He retired after 20 years as a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Army, having served in the Vietnam War where he was in the 8th Infantry Medical Division as a helicopter medic. Hershel was also a Jumpmaster with the 7th Army, 8th Division. He completed 1875 free falls and was on the Skydiving Show Team, competing all over the world and being a State Champion in Honolulu, HI. Upon his retirement from the Army he was a semi-truck driver for 20 years. Hershel loved fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling and taking care of his family and feeding the whole town with his garden goods.

In addition to his loving wife of 65 years, Hershel is survived by his daughter, Ramona (Michael) Smith of Whitestown and grandchildren: Alexander Michael, Nicholas Von, and Jackson Taylor Smith; and sisters, Patricia Ann Hardin and Camele Kay Fisher. In addition to his parents, Hershel was preceded in death by a brother, Voyle “Bus” Fisher.

Family and friends will gather Friday, Oct. 30, 2020 for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 12 noon in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon.
