Kay Lynn Boatman–Sampson, 85, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Witham Memorial Hospital. She was born July 31, 1938, in Logansport, Indiana, a daughter of the late Herbert and Ruth (Dietz) Groninger.

On September 20, 1957, she was united in marriage to James Morrow Boatman and spent 38 loving years together; James passed away in 1995. She then met Richard Allen Sampson Sr. and united in marriage in 1998. They shared 18 years together before Dick passed away in 2017.

She was a 1956 graduate of Lebanon High School. She was the mailroom supervisor at Meridian Mutual Insurance in Indianapolis. Kay was also a supervisor at BMG in Indianapolis from 1993 until she retired in 2000.

Kay was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. She was a member of their women’s round table, taught Sunday School, and she was a Vacation Bible School Teacher. Kay was an active Tri Kappa Sorority member. She enjoyed playing bridge in her free time and was a member of several card clubs. She also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. Kay was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include, her children, Karen Lynch of Lebanon and Steve Boatman of Wylie, Texas; grandson, Andrew Lynch of Florida; brother, Sam (Marianne) Groninger of Nashville, Tennessee; sister, JoAnne Sutter of Elkhart; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and first and second husband, Kay was preceded in death by her sister, Suellen Edens and brothers-in-law, Leslie Sutter and Forrest Respess; and Sister-in-Law: Nancy Respess.

Memorial Services are planned for 3:00 p.m., Monday, January 15, 2024, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the Lebanon Public Library, 104 East Washington Street, Lebanon, Indiana 46052.
