At approximately 11:25 pm January 1st fire crews were dispatched to 4005 W. 625 South on a reported house fire. Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy smoke in the residence. Crews from
Lebanon, Lizton, Pittsboro, Jamestown, and Center Township Fire departments quickly extinguished the fire. Additional Tanker apparatus from area departments were also on scene due to the rural location of the fire. The two elderly residents of the home were assessed by Boone County EMS and refused further treatment. No emergency responders were injured during the fire.
Investigators from Lebanon Fire Department conducted an origin and cause investigation. The fire originated in the home’s primary bedroom and was confined to a bed and nearby furnishings.
Investigators determined the fire likely was caused by an electric blanket in use at the time of the fire. Home medical oxygen present in the bedroom likely contributed to fire spread. Upon completion of suppression activities and investigation, all fire units cleared the scene by 1:00 am.
