Chief Chad Morgan and the Lebanon Police Department (LPD) are proud to announce two promotions within the Investigations Division. Detective Jeff Nelson has been promoted to the rank of Detective Captain (Cpt), and Detective Bryan Spencer has been promoted to Detective Lieutenant (Lt.).
Cpt. Nelson is a 1999 Indiana University graduate and a 1994 Lebanon High School graduate and has been greatly involved in the community. He has been coaching basketball, baseball, or football at the youth and middle school levels for years. Cpt. Nelson has been an LPD member for 21 years. Prior to his promotion to Cpt., Nelson held the position of Detective Lieutenant. Cpt. Nelson worked in patrol for 15 years before earning his way into the Investigations Division in 2015. During his time with LPD Cpt. Nelson was a Boone County Special Response Team (SRT) member for 13 years and a Defensive Tactics and Taser
instructor for the department.
Cpt. Nelson said in his new role he is looking forward to maintaining a good working relationship with all departments in Boone County and continuing to help build the Lebanon Police Department for future growth. Cpt. Nelson will be responsible for overseeing the investigations division. Lt. Spencer has been a member of LPD for 11 years and holds a degree in Business Management. During Lt. Spencer’s time at LPD, he has spent 5 years in investigations, 6 years in patrol, served as a Field Training Officer, K9 handler, a member of the Interdiction Unit, a Drone Team member, and a Taser instructor. As Detective Lieutenant, Spencer said his
responsibilities would be to continue to work hand in hand with the other Detectives and assist them any way he can in solving cases for the city of Lebanon, with a few added supervisor duties. Lt. Spencer said he is looking forward to continuing the hard work they do in investigations. Lt. Spencer stated “We have a good core group of investigators, and each brings their own strengths to the division that we can all utilize. In my new role as Lieutenant, I want to be able to assist the other Detectives, lead by example, and try and help improve on what’s already a strong division.”
