Leonard L. Pyles, 95, of Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022 at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon.
Leonard was born Dec. 1, 1926, in Indianapolis, the only son of the late Claude J. and Edna (McCance) Pyles. Leonard was married to Dorothy (Kincaid) Pyles for 74 and 1/2 years. She preceded him in death Jan. 13, 2022.
Leonard served in the U.S. Army. He moved to the family farm west of Mechanicsburg in 1939, working as a lifelong farmer, and later with Dick Gravel Company as a loader operator. Leonard was active in 4-H, through his children. After retirement, he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity for many years. Leonard enjoyed deer hunting and working on wood crafts, many of which were given to family members as Christmas gifts. He also loved animals, especially horses and his grand dogs and great grand dogs. Leonard was a member of the Clinton County Campers Club and a lifelong member of the Mechanicsburg Christian Church, where he served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Superintendent. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a protector and a hard worker. He was a steadfast man.
Survivors include his daughters, Sherrie (Norman) Dick of Brownsburg, Barbara (Jeff) Richardson of Lebanon, and Wanda (Ed) Coffman of Lebanon, TN, a daughter- in- law, Malinda Pyles of Thorntown and; grandchildren, Ryan (Rachel) Pyles of Greenfield, Melissa Pyles of Thorntown, Megan (Jacob) Allio of Ventura, CA, Cassidy (John) Hayden of Newburgh, Nick (Payton) Coffman of Fishers, Jennifer (Rob) Abbott of Ruckersville, VA, Jeremy (Desiree) Acton of Oroville, CA, Travis (Cindy) Dick of Medford, OR, Christie (Jonas) Miller of Lebanon, and Brandon (Melissa) Dick of Westfield; great grandchildren, Owen, Michela, and Julia Pyles, Ryker, Eisley, and, Briggs Hayden, Addy Kincaid Coffman, Krystian (Keagan) Abbott and Kaleb Abbott, Addison Acton, Brodie, Spencer, and Abby Dick, Jaden and Jackson Miller, and Jada, Nathan, and Leah Dick; and expecting a great- great grandchild, Kadence Abbott in March.
Leonard was preceded in death by a son, Norman Dean Pyles and a great grandson, Rhiley Acton.
Family and friends will gather Saturday, Jan. 22, for a graveside service at 10 a.m. in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Lebanon (masks required at cemetery). A celebration service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Mechanicsburg Christian Church.
