Frankfort authorities, including city police and the coroner’s office, are investigating the death of man who died while assisting in the operation of a crusher machine at the Irving Materials Incorporated plant on State Road 28 West.

Authorities were called to the scene around 1:24 pm. Frankfort Police Captain Jake Myers says the man was atop a piece of machinery (crusher) that was clogging and had been turned off to clear the machine. Once workers had cleared the clog – the man rquested the machine be “turned on.” It was at that point the man lost his balance (due to the shaking machine) and fell into an area of the machine that did not involve crushing where he hit his head and was killed due to the impact.

Bulldog Crushing & Screening was contracted to operate the machine for IMI. Captain Myers indicated no criminal investigation is pending and that the incident appeared to be an accident.

Occupational Safety and Helath Administration (OSHA) is also investigating.
