Growing up on her parent’s family farm north of Lebanon, Marcia developed the passion for agriculture she would carry throughout her life. She was a 10-year member of Boone County 4-H, where she showed beef cattle and sewed. It was during her time in 4-H she met Alan and the two began dating. Marcia played on the high school golf team, was an exceptional student, and graduated Salutatorian from Lebanon High School in 1976. She continued her studies at Notre Dame University, where she graduated with honors in 1980. Upon graduation, she began her career as a Certified Public Accountant. She owned and operated an accounting business in Lebanon from 1991 until her retirement in 2022. In addition to her accounting business, she stayed busy managing the finances of the family farm.
Marcia’s drive and work ethic eventually led her to public service, and in 2005 she was elected to the Boone County Council. She was completing her fifth and final term in public office and had recently been chosen as the Council’s Vice President. Throughout her tenure, Marcia served on several different committees, most notably the Budget and Finance Committee. For Marcia, maintaining a balanced budget and being a good steward of tax dollars were top priorities. She served on the Boone County REMC board, was a member of the YMCA, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, and was a lifelong member of the Centenary United Methodist church.
Along with her service to the community, Marcia had several interests and hobbies. Her favorite pastime was watching her children and grandchildren participate in activities such as 4-H, sports, and Blackbox Theater. She enjoyed traveling and could often be found relaxing in the sun. Marcia was an avid reader, and she also enjoyed quilting, playing bridge, and outings with the “Friday Night Dinner Crew.” Marcia loved attending Purdue football and basketball games.
Marcia is survived by her mother, husband, and children, Andrew Wilhoite, Aaron (Jessica) Wilhoite, Monica (Adam) Nagele, and Madeline (Matt) Young. Also surviving are her beloved and cherished grandchildren, Lexi, Alyvia, Nathan, Claire, Cooper, Clark, Charli Wilhoite, Asher and Liam Young, as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Marcia is preceded in death by her father, a brother, Mark Cunningham, and a daughter-in-law, Nikki Wilhoite.
Memorial contributions can be made in Marcia’s name to the organizations in which her grandchildren were involved: Boone County 4-H, Blackbox Theatre Company, Lebanon Youth Soccer Association, Lebanon Swim Club, YMCA of Boone County, or The National FFA Organization.
