At approximately 7:25 Thursday morning, fire crews were dispatched to 1608 N. Lebanon Street on a reported commercial building fire. Employees of the building’s businesses arrived at work to the smell of smoke and immediately notified the Boone County Communications Center. Lebanon firefighters arrived on scene within minutes of the initial 9-1-1 call and were met with smoke in the building. Upon further investigation, crews located the fire in the office’s mechanical room. Firefighters from Lebanon, Whitestown, and Zionsville Fire Departments were able to contain the fire to the room of origin, and quickly brought the fire under control. After checking the building for additional fire and smoke damage, crews on the scene requested a Fire Investigator respond to the scene. All occupants of the building were able to escape unharmed, and no emergency responders were injured.
Lebanon Fire Department Investigators arrived on scene and began detailed examination and documentation of the scene. The origin and cause investigation led investigators to determine the fire originated near the base of a HVAC unit. The fire cause was determined to be accidental in nature. Upon completion of the investigation, LFD units transferred control of the building to the property owner. All emergency personnel cleared the scene at 10:30 am.
