Mr. John Alan Shoemaker, 84, of Whitestown, Indiana, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, November 23, 2019, at Signature Healthcare at Parkwood in Lebanon. He was born in Lebanon, Indiana, on September 2, 1935, a son of the late Chester Eugene and Mary Louise (Schooley) Shoemaker.

On July 7, 1961, he was married to Janet S. (Neese) Shoemaker in Whitestown. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2008.

John was a 1953 graduate of Whitestown High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably from 1958 – 1960. John was a life-long grain and livestock farmer. In addition, he served as the caretaker and President of Mt. Runn Cemetery from 1979 – 2019.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. John enjoyed his family, gardening, and attend the 4-H county fair. His memberships included Mt. Runn Baptist Church and Boone County Pork Producers.

In addition to his parents and his wife, John was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Wayne Shoemaker and Roy Dean Shoemaker; a daughter, Bonnie Jean Shoemaker; a grandson, Joshua Isaac Shoemaker; and brothers-in-law, Bill Kelsey and Claude Westerfield.

Funeral Services are to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana.
Visitation is planned from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday.
Interment will follow services at Mts. Runn Cemetery in Boone County, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mts. Runn Cemetery in his memory.
