>>USMNT Moves On To Gold Cup Semis

(Philadelphia, PA)  —  The U.S. men’s national team is moving on to the 2017 Gold Cup semifinals.  Team USA advanced with a 2-nil win over El Salvador last night in Philadelphia.  Omar Gonzalez and Eric Lichaj [[ LAY-high ]] scored in the first half for the Americans, who will face Costa Rica in the semis.

>>Arenado Powers Rockies In Rout Of Padres

(Denver, CO)  —  Nolan Arenado’s monster day powered the Rockies to an 18-4 rout of the Padres at Coors Field.  Arenado went 5-for-6 with three homers, four runs scored and seven RBI.  He became the first player with a five-hit, three-homer game in franchise history.

>>Red Sox Release Sandoval

(Boston, MA)  —  Pablo Sandoval’s disappointing run with the Red Sox is officially over.  Boston released the third baseman yesterday after designating him for assignment last week.  After signing a 95-million-dollar deal with Boston before the 2015 season, Sandoval hit just .237 with 14 home runs in 161 games.  Multiple reports say he will sign a minor-league deal with the Giants.

>>Panthers Name Hurney Interim GM

(Charlotte, NC)  —  The Panthers are naming Marty Hurney interim general manager.  Hurney returns to the same post he held from 2002-to-2012.  He replaces Dave Gettleman, who was fired on Monday after four years as GM.  Hurney selected Cam Newton in 2011 and Luke Kuechly [[ KEEK-lee ]] in 2012 in his final two drafts with the team.

>>OJ Simpson Could Be Free By October

(Pershing County, NV)  —  O.J. Simpson will go in front of Nevada’s parole board for a chance to earn his freedom today.  Simpson is set to appear before Nevada’s Board of Parole Commissioners via video conference.  Simpson has served more than eight years of a nine-to-33-year sentence after being convicted of armed robbery and other charges in 2008.
