(Boston, MA) — Pablo Sandoval’s disappointing run with the Red Sox is officially over. Boston released the third baseman yesterday after designating him for assignment last week. After signing a 95-million-dollar deal with Boston before the 2015 season, Sandoval hit just .237 with 14 home runs in 161 games. Multiple reports say he will sign a minor-league deal with the Giants.

(Charlotte, NC) — The Panthers are naming Marty Hurney interim general manager. Hurney returns to the same post he held from 2002-to-2012. He replaces Dave Gettleman, who was fired on Monday after four years as GM. Hurney selected Cam Newton in 2011 and Luke Kuechly [[ KEEK-lee ]] in 2012 in his final two drafts with the team.

(Pershing County, NV) — O.J. Simpson will go in front of Nevada’s parole board for a chance to earn his freedom today. Simpson is set to appear before Nevada’s Board of Parole Commissioners via video conference. Simpson has served more than eight years of a nine-to-33-year sentence after being convicted of armed robbery and other charges in 2008.
