Patty Lou Yates, 80, of Thorntown, passed away at home on May 16, 2023, after spending a beautiful Mother’s Day with her family.

Patty was born Feb. 28, 1943, to Harold and Margaret (Bowen) Evans. She was raised on her parents’ farm in Thorntown along with her three sisters, Clara Parsons, Lova Dye and Susie Maiden. She attended Thorntown High School and married Richard Lee Yates in 1958.

Patty was a social worker for more than 40 years, beginning her career in 1969 at the Sheltered Workshop, now better known as ARC. She retired after 30 years from the Boone County Office Division of Family and Children, and then went on to run the poor relief program for the Center Township Trustee’s Office. She dearly loved her time as a caseworker helping those in need.

She had five children: Jeff Yates, Kirk Yates, Terry Yates, Kimber Yates and Chrissy Yates; Grandchildren: Kari Butler, Jill Kolp-Sherwood, Kassie Price, Adrienne Johnson, Layne White, Matthew Jones, Alexandra Jones; and many Great Grandchildren.

Thanks to AsceraCare Hospice and the Visiting Angels network, along with many extended family members, for their efforts allowing some very sweet final days together. Special appreciation to Adrienne and Layne for caring for Grandma’s beautiful earthly home.

Luke 23:43
