Dr. Jonathon W. Cavins, a Pediatrician with Witham Health Services, has been charged with Child Molesting, a Level 4 Felony, after an investigation by the Lebanon Police Department.
Allegations of inappropriate conduct between Dr. Cavins and the 12-year-old male victim were reported to the Lebanon Police Department on February 7, 2019. The victim reported that during a physical examination on February 4, 2019, Dr. Cavins fondled his penis. This incident occurred in one of the examination rooms in the Witham Health Services Pediatrics suite.
A forensic interview was conducted with the victim at Sylvia’s Child Advocacy Center, where investigators obtained more details of the incident. Detectives executed a search warrant on the personal office of Dr. Cavins and the examination room where this incident occurred, both of which are located in the Witham Health Services Pediatric suite. Detectives recovered evidence that was consistent with the victim’s statement during the forensic interview. It was also determined that the manner in which Dr. Cavins touched the juvenile’s penis was was not consistent with the routine medical and physical evaluation for which the victim was being seen.
Detectives concluded during their investigation that, based on their training and experience, Dr. Cavins fondled the penis of the 12-year-old victim with the intent to arouse either his sexual desires or the sexual desires of the male victim. Detectives presented their findings to the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office, recommending appropriate charges be filed against Dr. Cavins.
Throughout the course of this investigation, Witham Health Services has offered their full cooperation. This is an ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
