Sixteen volunteers spent Saturday morning grooming about a mile of the Big Four Trail south of Thorntown in what has become an annual event for the Friends of Boone County Trails. Dan Warkentein, a retired history teacher who serves as president of the board of the trails organization, coordinated the effort and showed up with a Stihl chainsaw, hard hat, ear protectors and a face screen to help reclaim some of the trail’s right-of-way from encroaching mulberry and honeysuckle growth.
