Roy Wayne Shepherd tragically passed away the evening of Friday, July 29, 2022 from a hit-and-run accident on the west side of Indianapolis.
Most that knew Roy earlier in his life observed that he didn’t always make the best choices or got himself into some pickles. What they didn’t know is that he suffered from chronic mental illness (Paranoid, Bipolar, Schizophrenia) all his life. Roy’s mother never gave up. Years prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, she was finally able to connect him with the right resources to appropriately manage his chronic mental illness and reset his life journey in a positive direction. Roy’s kind and generous self was able to shine through, including helping others fix electronics, working on projects around the Tremont Mental Health Center and cooking meals for friends/tenants.
Roy is survived by his mother, Geraldine “Jerri” DeCroes; sister, Cheryl (Shepherd) Dunbar; niece, Melissa (Todd) Unger; nephews, Mark (Jullian) Dunbar, Michael Wetmore and Derek Dunbar and many other family members, loved ones and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Shepherd and a sister, Brenda (Shepherd) Schuppe.
Burial of Ashes will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
Memorials may be given in his memory to Eskenazi Health, 720 Eskenazi Ave., Indianapolis, Indiana 46202.
Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory have been entrusted with his arrangements.
